Since his defeat at the hands of the Ruby Counsel, Xan has been a petrified snail. The Xnail is in an unknown location, but was last seen in possession of Nanny-02.

Originally, decades before the events of Sunholm, Xan was a dwarf, and Rebecca's partner-in-artifice. They made stunning scientific progress together, eventually establishing the technological foundation for all of Magitech Inc's Warforged models. Their greatest ambition was shockingly mundane - power. They aspired to recreate the Legend Warforged of old, those capable of slaying even Gods. But before they could finish, they were the both of them killed, somehow. Rebecca's body languished in an abandoned cavern workshop, until rediscovery by Nanny-02, while Xan was resurrected at great cost by the Board of Magitech.

Before Xan was resurrected by Magitech, he was touched by a mysterious power. What, he could not say, but it granted him eldritch knowledge. He used these secrets, as well as an ancient artifact of Sunholm, to conduct a ghastly ritual. This ritual rendered the souls of the departed into a more... convenient medium, a chassis of chrome and titanium that could be compelled to obey. Thus was born the modern warforged, in all its perversity.

Xan was a spellcaster of great power before his fall at the hands of the Ruby Counsel.
