I was orphaned at a young age. Starting his life doing Three Card Monty as a child, I didn't learn the actual slight of hand of it until later but still were able to win enough to scrape by. I was desperately gambling to save friends and hit a run of luck that was a little too good so the mafia leader Poppa Cavatelli chased me out of town and I wandered around for a while on the run until finally ending up in Sunholm. Svedridge, Cavatelli's enforcer, always didn't seem too far behind.
His friends are Timmofee, youngest son of Duke Francisco, who died trying to fight back against Poppa Cavatelli (with his giant hunting crossbow named Nancy, one time we flew in a dirigible to Icewind Dale to hunt moose but he did most of the hunting), and his other friend in Mabel (though idk what is happening with her, after paying off the debts it seems like she sent a letter with a splotchy red X on it).
Before I got to Sunholm I managed to gamble the whole estate off of Duke Francisco in his own rigged game of roulette, conned my way into the fanciest restaurant in Waterdeep, worked as a deckhand on a merchant ship, and accidentally apprehended some bandits.
