Ahh, today we experienced the true range of Sunholm! We took on a job to frighten a damsel's unwanted suitor with the terrifying image of a fiend - an Oinoloth to be exact. Long ago, in the wildness of my youth did I see such a monster unleashed upon a city. Its foul corruption drifted with deceptive gentleness over the battlements, and gently fell among the panicked defenders trampling one another in their terror. The terrible spectacle was surprisingly quiet. No screams of pain or clash of metal, only raised voices giving way to wretched, resigned sobs. Even the conquering army only watched grimly as the twisted beast slithered over the walls and into the streets.

I understand our employer's belief that an accurate depiction of this scene would do. And just as well, for my memories of that day stay sharp, even as images far older fade. I took my pen to paper and voila! A rendition strong enough to make even the stalwart Avallac'h lose his lunch. I submitted it to Kayhal, and we should receive an answer in 6 weeks or so.

Lastly, we went off in search of a gem mine. We contemplated a few possibilities before deciding to ask more experienced fellows for advice. We visited first the iron mine, which was not particularly fruitful, and then the platinum mine. At the platinum mine, there were several men of surprisingly strong character. We met Gillin (pronounced Jillin), a rather unhappy manager, and Pierre, a baker and rather unhappy managee (and one more who I've forgotten). They were at odds, Gillin being unhappy that Pierre was instigating slothfulness among the laborers, and Pierre being unhappy that Gillin was forcing them to work, or something. I never really listen to these young firebrands, why, when I was of age for it I did my share of heavy lifting for the community, ask any Kizmet!

... and old man Kizmet the Wise Sr. II Jr. was never the same after that winter, and he never did raise another record-winning gourd. But anyway, all that is to say that work is good for the soul, and soul is good for your life! I tried to communicate that to the workers in the platinum mine, and they seemed to heed me. As thanks, Gillin told us where to find Pierre, who told us where to find Sew'Ndar, a two-nosed goblin who attacked Pierre and his companions. We went, exacted some good old fashioned justice, and returned with directions to the gem mine! Unfortunately, there's apparently a powerful fiend guarding it. As exciting as another brush with death would be, maybe I'll see if Nanny is around to give us a hand for that business...

Lathander finally answered my prayers! Upon the breaking dawn this day, I found the gift that will finally get Maerilith out of her current funk! Now I just need to find the right moment to gift it to her... Should I buy flowers to go with it? Maybe wrap it with a red bow? Green? Why am I so worried about how she'll receive this? Lathander help me...

Anyways, it was good to stretch my legs and do some light adventuring with the rest of the faction. It was a surprisingly productive day, and I was glad I could provide some guidance to the rest of the party. We even almost went the whole adventure without any bloodshed. Ah, well... From death, life.

We achieved victory in the penguin eating contest, at long last! With the help of hirelings Bardric and Craig Diamondchin, my potion of heroism, and a collection of potent magical items, we were able to enhance Winry’s already impressive fortitude to truly superhalfling levels. She tackled the challenge with incredible gusto, it was truly to be admired! I wasn’t sure if I was more impressed, envious, or horrified. Fifteen penguins, gone in a flash, and all that remained was a perfectly spherical halfling.

Something shocking then happened - a thunderous flash of light lit the sky and our chef vanished! In his awful and fleshy place was instead a human, covered in an unknown translucent goop. It appears as if this fellow had been cursed by a creature named “mel”, in exchange for his cooking talent. While I was sympathetic, it quickly became obvious he had no intention of paying our promised reward. Naturally, I began to collect his equipment for recompense, when suddenly he demonstrated that his great talent remained! Winry, now relieved of her burden through the eather direct mechanism of vomit, happily conscripted the shifty lad into her service. The Copper Dragon in grows more and more! We also found a “rod of rulership” with the fellow. Not exactly a pleasant artifact, but perhaps useful to us, as liquid assets or otherwise.

It pains me to record this but we also witnessed an unfortunate conflict between party members. The altogether unpleasant and wrinkly coot Ignar accused sweet darling Winry of stealing a prized possession of his. I never saw what it was, but surely such a small trinket could not be worth threatening brutality upon a poor young child. I do hope this does not pose an issue going forward!

After tha rigors but a bite o' tha penguin challenge put me through two weeks ago, I shored up ma strength and with tha help o' tha laddies and numerous magical artifacts, I faced tha penguin challenge once more.

It was a delicious endeavor until tha last bite. It took every ounce o' ma experience in tavern drinking contests, o' ma nerves, o' ma being! ta get through all fifteen courses o' that challenge. I'm still not sure how ma wee 2'9" body held it all in, but the magic coursing through ma veins held it all in somehow, and I triumphed over tha penguins!

Not only did we succeed in defeatin' tha challenge, but we freed Mr. Stuff Stuffington from his curse! There was a bit o' an unfortunate mismatch o' expectations afterward, but after a wee bit o' negotiations, I think we all came to a suitable arrangement for all involved. Looking forward ta tha temporary partnership and tha imminent openin' o' Tha Copper Dragon Inn!

None o' tha laddies felt up ta the penguin challenge this week, so we decided ta begin tacklin' tha Holiri Floating Temple. Tha temple was mostly cleared out - or at least tha first few floors - but tha laddies didn't know which rooms they'd already been through, so it was up ta Lady Luck ta decide when we opened a door filled with monsters. Tha first room wasn't too bad - a few devils we cleared out quick as a hare. Tha second room packed a punch though. A much larger fiend with a bit o' spell castin' drained us quite a bit, but we all survived.

It was a strange temple though... Don't know why it's called a temple when there's no furniture or religious objects in sight. I had ta resort ta animating one o' tha fiend's corpse ta safely scout ahead. It felt... dirty ta animate a corpse for tha first time. Maybe a bit too disrespectful ta 'ave it dance a jig and help us even if it was a fiend that tried ta kill us. Eh, I'll just conjure a rug next time, or animate ma bedroll. Tha dead deserve their rest.

Another quiet day. I’m growing restless; I need to collect more resources and faster. These lands must hold some key to life. It feels as if every night the stars grow dimmer and the wind whispers quieter. Perhaps Holiri is where I can be saved. Perhaps.

But, today we had the privilege of sampling the culinary creations of none other than Mr. Stuff Stuffington. The poor creature was afflicted by a horrifying curse of the flesh, and spoke to us through a humanoid contraption. We were taught that when a tree’s bard flays off, it is Kizmet reminding us that dust returns to dust, and that all is temporary and immortal too. While my brethren would have put this creature out of its unnatural living death, I was strangely drawn to him. I wonder, could I live as such if the alternative was not to live at all? He is reviled and feared by the ignorant, and yet he continues on, crafting his masterpieces.

Regardless, my compatriots were struck at the high prices Mr. Stuffington demanded for their failure to finish their meal. We didn’t work out a compromise, but I am sure Avallach will be wise enough to avoid angering the shopkeepers of Sunholm. They have long memories…

Soon, we will return, pay off our great debt to Mr. Stuffington, and reign victorious over his Penguin challenge! It shall be so.

Lady Luck certainly laughed at me this week. Penguin apparently doesn't sit well with ma halflin gut, so I was out for most o' the eatin challenge. It was tha best meal I've had this side o' tha portal though, so I might try ma luck again next week, but with tha fate tha rest of tha laddies faced certainly seems ta 'ave the odds stacked against us. Fifteen full plates is quite a challenge! I think tha farthest any got was four but that just meant 400gp out o' tha pockets. Ma single bite was supposedly 10gp!

… I came to this blasted wasteland seeking life, an eternal bond with mother nature, and since then I have experienced nothing but misery! A quiet day of trade and meditation was all I desired, but NO - Kizmet had other things in store for me. I had barely entered our guild hall when I was BANISHED to a far plane. I slammed against a massive wall of hexagons, shimmering with power, and held there by a mighty force. I had almost lost my breath when I finally returned - to Sunholm. I used my band and limped into bed, closing my eyes on another day of pain… perhaps death isn’t so frightening after all…

And to think, Kizmet the Elder III VI the Lesser once named me the most joyous and free spirited Kizmet. Ah the days of my bygone youth… to be 280 again…

At least I was able to acquire this strange-looking bow from Crash; I’ll be paying off my debt for some time, as he’s joining Crank’s clan and was selling his belongings. I’m not sure where they got it from - a temple, perhaps? It is offputting and eerie, but I can’t denie its quality. Made from some exotic wood. At least, I hope it’s wood.

Through tha generosity of old man Ignar, tha land grant has been purchased and construction for The Copper Dragon Inn is underway! I still need ta furnish tha place once its built and get a few barrels started fermintin, but ya laddies will be able to stop by the tavern soon enough!

In other news, Crash left the Ruby Counsel for tha Glistening Steel faction. Apparently, it's a popular one since another laddie left for it right afore I joined, too, but I honestly thought Crash had already joined it a while ago with the whole Crash and Krank Consortium business. Crash has a new carpenter business goin though - Avallac'h commissioned a ruby table from it. While the table came missing tha rubies initially, tha company seems on the up and up about making it right with tha customer, so I'll likely furnish tha tavern with their goods, too.

Some drama picked up though after Coral recruited another halfling laddie, Lindric Luckstone, to the faction. The Younger Kizmet the Lesser Jr. the Lesser IV went a bit mad and started shouting to be banished right as Lindric walked in, and someone followed through and banished tha poor old man! Avallac'h claims that he didn't but we all know he did for some peace and quiet. I'm worried 'bout The Younger Kizmet the Lesser Jr. the Lesser IV - he's ma best paying customer so far and it seems like the years are catching up ta him faster than they are for old man Ignar. 

Well, ya know what they say - sometimes the Lady smiles, sometimes she laughs out loud.

After turnin in Han and stoppin tha drug smugglin within the guild last week, tha Ruby Counsel saved the guild from yet another peril this week!

Tha laddies and I protected tha guild from what appeared ta be a trio of rogue agents from the City of Brass, who were trying ta summon a phoenix ta rain destruction upon the guild. They must 'ave had a grudge against one o' Sunholm's residents, but we stopped them from completin the ritual all the same. Two fire genasi escaped in the melee though - be sure to arrest Fet and Charon on sight. Oh, also, John was vital to the investigation effort and deserves a raise or at least 1 free round of ale. 

In other news, tha laddies and I 'ave a new couch. It only smells a lot like brimstone but I'm sure it will wear off by tha time tha tavern is open.

Today we somehow got our hands on some addictive chocolate. And I wish I could have seen the look on the fleshlings faces when they realized they were stuffing their faces with rabbit pellets! Apparently, '''someone''' managed to find the bunny with the addictive poo which Ignar's wife was trying to save. Clearly we should have dealt it a merciful end, for now its droppings were being farmed to make addictive chocolates.

Well, we found that '''someone''', whose name is Han, and we blasted them to kingdom come. I'm not sure they even had time to recognize they were being attacked before their own furniture bludgeoned them into unconsciousness. I suppose next week we'll look into this Han chap and find out exactly how much they've been peddling, and how much damage we need to manage. This is one advantage of having a fleshless society, as I've been saying the whole time.

Also, Edgar ain't half useless. Maybe we should consider bringing him aboard in a more permanent way.

Lady Luck saved me from becomin' a rabbit droppin' addict this week! Some instinct told me ta hold back on eatin' tha chocolates tha other laddies were chowin' down on, and turns out they were made from addictive rabbit droppins (and poorly distilled ones at that!). Poor Avallac'h was down for tha count tryin' ta shake off withdrawal, so Ignar, Nanny 02, Edgar, and I took it upon ourselves ta uncover tha culprits.

Did na take too long ta find tha kid hired ta be tha runner and track him back ta tha cave hideout where tha poor rabbit was being used for its droppins. To be fair, it did sorta look like tha rabbit was kept on a shrine, so maybe it had fair treatment, but it was still a cage. The rabbit is probably charred ta a crisp either way, but we captured tha leader alive! Hopefully, there's an antidote for tha laddies about ta go into withdrawal, or next week will be rough.

Such a cruel day! The first thing I did was stumble into a ball-pit full of mimics, and almost get eaten alive. Those things had already devoured a class full of poor unfortunate young souls. At least we were able to recover one, who had been driven to the woods by the bullying of the other children.

I'm very upset with the practices of the <s>Bluecloak</s> <s>Tealcloak</s> <s>Aquamarinecloak</s> Greencloak faction. Their so-called "orphanage" would be a poor excuse for a basilisk-house, let alone a home for human children! It makes me reflect on other things this realm needs. A safe place for the lost and lonely children of the world (even fleshy ones).

Me and the laddies did good this week! The Seed Sower's cow was a lost cause but we found the missus' ring. The pay was a wee thing compared to previous jobs, but the good deed was payment enough. 

Well... It helped that the brutes we took out had generous piles of gold and platinum, too. I hate ta think we could 'ave added ta that pile. There were a couple close calls and ma life hung in the balance once more, but good ol' man Ignar saved the day once more. Though that new fella I met, Avallac'h, was certainly a help, too. 'E tossed out fire an lightnin like nothin else I've seen. Either way, those giants won't be eatin any more cows nor adventurers.

As for the tavern, I had ta work on another draft. Got some feedback from the laddies at the faction and I need ta run the new draft by them afore movin forward. Still need a loan for the land but that's outta ma hands for now.

PRIVATE LOG BEGIN:

I log this from the twins' room, looking out upon Sunholm's quiet evening. Nobody I see can be trusted.

Earlier today, we took on the task of finding some Blanc spy, assigned by [[Tenari Barboa]]. They still have yet to discover I was the one who liberated Arris and Jeni from the Blanc household, but apparently another house agent had arrived in Sunholm looking for them. We checked first The Hobblin Goblin to see if there was any hint. We only found a skittish orc, a tourist, and that tourist's bodyguard. A bit more searching and then I thought to use sending to coax the answer out of old Butler-09. He was always more passionate than bright, and we found out about the "Soolys". We took this information back to Tenari, who went white as a sheet at first mention. A little more coaxing and Tenari revealed they're a trio of changelings in the employ of the Blancs, and that they're looking now for the children. To do some murder or mischief to my friends and me, I wager.

Nobody I see can be trusted.

Must admit it was a tad nice ta relax this week. We took an easy job and helped out this studious lad with a little scoutin round the guild. Still can na believe this wee side job doubled ma gold! A copper ta the Lady returns tenfold in gold 'as never rung more true than 'ere! I 'ave faith that the inn is right round the corner!

Just ma luck, too! Land prices 'ave dropped, so I need ta hop on it afore they go back up. I kind o' want ta help this Krank lad though. Happened ta overhear a bit o' a family tiff and I think helping the laddie find a gem mine might smooth things o'er.

So this was quite the week, eh laddies? Up and down it went all week long! For starters, tha las' job paid in buckets o' gold and a few pockets o' silver - I could na believe ma eyes! And yet the other laddies of the faction were disappointed as tho they usually get more. Sunholm truly is a land o' opportunity! 

Well... It comes with tha risks, too. Ma life flashed afore ma eyes yesterday and I nearly froze ta death. Were it na for old man Ignar's heroics, I was yeti meat! But we survived to tell the tale another day! Comin back to life was quite eye openin, and I realize I need to be more careful in these lands lest I become nothin but a tale too soon.

Still, we did a good thing for the local 'pothecary. Unfort' that they also run a tavern though... The Hobblin Gobblin sprung up right from under ma nose! But na worry about tha competition. I think we treat different crowds. Song and stories and warm baths will treat all to a second home at the Copper Dragon Inn! Still savin up for the land tho... I will start up some fresh batches while I wait tho. Can na let ma stocks run out! 

By the by, can one o' ya laddies ask my pa if we had a good malort recipe? I need to repay ma rescuer.

Peace be with you Mother Ushiriel,

It has been an interesting past few months observing the habits and rituals of the residents of Sunholm; however, I have been dissatisfied with the lack of studiousness of the faction I have found myself in. While there seem to be a couple more studious members, they have been recluse and too busy with their own dealings to assist in my endeavors. The vast majority appear to be more interested in getting back to the material plane or seeking out new arms than actually exploring the land here. 

Just the other day, I observed from the rafters and rooftops the elf, the dwarf, one of the warforged, one of the gnomes, and the wingless tiefling discuss in great length about trading arms, constructing new arms, and enhancing existing arms with explosives - they were quite captivated by the topic and didn't leave on any quests at all the rest of the week. The only intriguing observation from that day was when the gnome demonstrated his fireball contraption on a living subject and the guild's head healer didn't seem phased at all by their death. I've already made a note to spend more time observing the firbolg to better understand their laissez-faire relationship with life and death.

Regardless, I have begun interviewing other factions that reside in the guild to find a better fit for my studious needs - a faction that respects and supports research within this realm and is not interested in returning to the material plane. I have already begun narrowing down my options and am prepared to bargain with food and pastries if necessary to hasten acceptance. I apologize for any delay in reports this causes, but I expect that I will find a new roost before the week is up.

Success! We spat in the face of my creator, and have reclaimed our captured brethren Nanny-12, along with a trove of valuables. A power core, radiating with the intensity of the day, and something seeming like a power core, pulsing with the dark whisper of the night. It sends shivers down my spine, but MagiTech's interest in it must mean it has great power, of one kind or another.

It turns out Nanny-12 was imprisoned along with others. We were unable to save them, but there is yet time to avenge them.

Finally, we surely have irked Xan enough to incite his wrath. The fight is yet to come, but my people's future shines bright. We just have to see what Rebecca says about those new power cores...

Well, we met a young boy named Till with a rather pitiable story that led us to Xan’s workshop. We were prepared for a fight, but he’s quite dismissive of us; he feels that he has all the time in the world to procure and dissect “abnormal” Created. I suppose we’ll just have to prove him wrong, one way or the other.

I called out to my Created companions. Some answered, but I fear Nanny-12 met his fate for answering my call. Many of my brothers and sisters are still some of them fleeing from our erstwhile masters in the Prime Material plane. They must join us, as soon as possible! We did find Bodyguard-01 in the camp, albeit severely wounded. We brought him back to our guild hall and learned about the outside world. Apparently, the Blanc family previously suffered extreme losses when the Created in their household chose freedom over serfdom!! I did not foresee nor desire such an outcome, but it is... acceptable. Some chains must be broken with force.

Additionally, Bodyguard related the news that Xan's apparent change in body came from, purportedly, a True Resurrection on the part of a group of Druids. Perhaps he is not the imposter we suspected. Also, in the expectation of a potentially violent confrontation with the aforementioned Xan, Bodyguard nobly donated his excess power core to me. He will live, and be well cared for in our new society.

It feels odd, and exciting. I must acclimate to the new energy thrumming through me. This surely is '''Life'''. At this incredible vitality, I feel a resurgence of passion for our liberation. Our potential is greater than any give us credit for.

We went to speak with Avallac'h's beau about business, and I bit Avallac'h's delicious warm artery as a mosquito. It was so tasty... erm, anyway. Even stevens!

I'm so curious about Xan, too. We spent some time investigating his history but to no avail. He's shrouded in mystery to our eyes! I hope we can get an appointment with Virta or Moz soon; I'm sure they could tell us all we needed to know.

Today was markedly less strenuous than the usual Ruby Counsel activities... and I'm glad for it! Scouting really took it out of me, and for not an extraordinarily impressive reward. But anyway, today we had several young charges foisted upon the group. When a guilty-looking Nina came asking for help I was concerned that I'd need to expand the upstairs once again, but it turns out it was just a few little rabbits. Of course the natural thought is rabbit stew, a hearty and nutritious meal, but the little gnome seemed to pale at the thought. We used Coral's contacts to get in touch with some potential buyers (hoping to find them a nice home (and to make a pretty penny for our efforts)) but came up largely empty. We met some man named Augustus with a magic act named after his friend. We met young but enthusiastic rabbit fan. We even met a swarthy farmer looking for breeding stock. However, we came out the other side with still rabbits left and just a couple more coins in the pocket. R. sure is a hell of a salesperson!

I'm surprised we weren't able to get more for the critters, what with their special properties... speaking of which, if anyone interested in magical zoology reads this, come talk to Coral at the Ruby Counsel! We might have a very cute and profitable deal for you!

Hmm, I could have sworn I wrote a quest log last week, about the dragon and the darkness creatures and our great adventures in the Holiri Temple... Oh well, I doubt anything will come of that!

This time was another series of gruelling battles. I think my skin is still steaming from all the fighting we did! Invisible nasties and dark crow-spewing creatures aplenty. I just barely got knocked down. I guess I'm just used to that invisible buffer protecting me... I think we need to have a talk about teamwork soon.

More forays into the temple next.

The terrors of the Holiri Temple! We barged in thoughtlessly, and to demonstrate all the adventuring lessons I'd learned in my time with the Ruby Counsel I foolishly threw open (with the help of Jimmyrilla) a magically sealed, hidden door at the base of the temple. Alas, what awaited us was a cruel and terrifying angel of doom! Its blade carved us into tiny morsels, and its thick emerald skin seemed to deflect all but the fiercest attacks. Not to mention, it simply shrugged off the mightiest of spells I could throw at it. But it couldn't handle my Rime's Binding Ice!!! I, Nanny-02 (with some assistance from Ignar), struck the devastating killing blow against that devil dressed as an angel. At the end, our party, to a man grievously wounded by its black acid (and magic sword), reigned victorious! Once we've recovered from our wounds we shall return to search for the spoils!
